Hosting Costs

The ongoing costs for running and managing your online presence depends on the type and number of services you use. We find that the majority of our clients require a similar set of hosting services and the summary below outlines a typical yearly outlay.

Estimate assumptions:

• Domain registration type of ".com"
• 5 emails account with 2Gb storage limit
• Professional Squarespace subscription
• $1.00 US to $1.28 AU exchange rate
• Price provided were accurate as of the 23 March, 2015 and may have since changed.

Please note that your requirements may differ from the example provided above so the costs will need to be adjusted accordingly. Please talk to us if you need some assistance in understanding or adjusting the estimate to suit your needs.

Hosting Cost Details

Further details on each of the costs have been provided below.

Domain Name Registration

If you don't already have a Domain Name setup for your business then we recommend the use of GoDaddy Domain Name Service. As of early 2015 the price for registering a ".com.au" domain  is from $12.99 AU per year for a minimum of 2 years and a ".com" domain is from $11.99 AU per year.

We also recommend including Privacy Protection for your domain at $10.99 AU per year.

Squarespace

At a minimum you will require a subscription to the Squarespace hosting platform. Details on the different subscription types can be found on the Squarespace Pricing site. As of early 2015 pricing ranged from $8.00 US / month for the Personal, $16.00 US / month for Professional and $24.00 US / month for Business subscriptions.

Commerce

There is no monthly cost for the Commerce platform but it does incur a transaction fee from 1.75% per transaction plus exchange rate conversion costs may be applied.

Email

If you don't already have email services configured then this can also be included with your Domain Name Registration with GoDaddy. Email packages are available as follows:

• 5 domain email addresses, 2Gb storage - $7.84 AU per month
• 5 domain email addresses, unlimited - $10.42 AU per month
• $1.92 AU per month for each additional email address

This will give you 5 or more domain specific email addresses eg. sales@mydomain.com, support@mydomain.com. If you only require a generic account such as <yourbusiness>@gmail.com then these costs can be avoided.
